Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin Biography

Muthuvel Karunanidhi (June 3, 1924 – August 7, 2018) was an Indian writer and politician who served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for nearly two decades, from 1969 to 2011, over five terms. For his contributions to Tamil literature, he was known as “Kalaignar” (Artist) and “Mutthamizh Arignar” (Tamil Scholar). With 6,863 days in office as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, he holds the record for the longest tenure in the state. He was also a long-time leader of the Dravidian movement and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam political party’s ten-time president. He worked as a screenwriter in the Tamil film industry before entering politics.

He also contributed to Tamil literature by writing short stories, poems, novels, and a multi-volume autobiography. MK Stalin, the leader of the DMK, was sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Friday (May 7). The oath of office and confidentiality is administered by Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit to the chief minister and other ministers.

The DMK, led by MK Stalin, has returned to power in Tamil Nadu for the first time in a decade. This was also the first time Stalin ran for office without his father, the late M Karunanidhi. Karunanidhi was born on June 3, 1924, to Ayyadurai (Grandfather) Muthuvel and Anjugam in the village of Thirukkuvalai in Nagapattinam district, Madras Presidency. Periyanayaki and Shanmugasundari were his two older sisters. [needs a page] There was a misunderstanding that his birth name was Dakshinamurthy,

which was later changed to Karunanidhi as a result of Dravidian and rationalist movements. Karunanidhi himself claimed that C.N. Annadurai advised him to keep his birth name “Karunanidhi” because it was already well-known. [More citation(s) are required] Karunanidhi stated in his writings that his family belonged to the Devadasi (renamed Isai Vellalar) caste, a small group known for playing musical instruments at ceremonial occasions; however, his political rival M. G. Ramachandran and some commentators disputed this, claiming that he was of Telugu descent.

During his youth, Karunanidhi was more interested in music, poetry, and activism than schoolwork, according to the first volume of his biography Nenjukku Needhi. During this time, he also recalls encountering and rebelling against caste-based discrimination. He began his education in Thirukkuvalai and then transferred to a high school in Tiruvarur in 1936. [a secondary source is required He was enthralled by the political writings of Tamil leaders such as Panagal Arasar, Periyar, and Pattukottai Azhagirisamy when he was a teenager (after whom Karunanidhi later named one of his sons).

Karunanidhi took part in anti-Hindi protests triggered by the provincial government’s legislation mandating Hindi education in schools, and in 1938 he organised a group of boys to stage demonstrations while riding a cycle rickshaw around Tiruvarur. In 1939, the statute was repealed. After a brief flirtation with Communism, Karunanidhi began following the work and speeches of leaders of the Justice Party, Self-Respect Movement, and Dravidar Kazhagam in the years that followed. After struggling three times in the final year, he ignored school and dropped out.

At the age of 15, Karunanidhi published his first magazine, Manava Nesan (Friends of Students), which he hand-wrote and circulated. It was quickly followed by the founding of Murasoli (Drum Roll). He moved on to writing plays that propagated Dravidian philosophy, and at the age of 20, he began writing and performing professionally for the Dravid Nadigar Kazhagam (Dravidian Actors Group).

Muthuvel Karunanidhi was an Indian politician who served five times as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. On June 3, 1924, he was born. He was the president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), a powerful Dravidian political party in Tamil Nadu. Since the death of the party’s founder, C. N. Annadurai, in 1969, Karunanidhi has served as its leader. The DMK leader has also worked as a screenwriter and playwright for Tamil films.

His supporters dubbed him ‘Kalaignar,’ which means ‘artist.’ He died on August 7, 2018, only a few days after celebrating 50 years as President of the DMK. Karunanidhi was reportedly motivated to enter politics at the age of 14 after hearing a speech by Justice Party’s Alagiriswami. His political career began with his participation in anti-Hindi protests. He also founded a local youth organisation and distributed ‘Manavar Nesan,’ a handwritten newspaper, among its members.

He then founded the student organisation ‘Tamil Nadu Tamil Manavar Mandram.’ It was the Dravidian Movement’s first student wing. Karunanidhi, along with other founders of the organisation, became involved in social work. He started a newspaper that is now known as ‘Murasoli,’ the official newspaper of the DMK party.

Karunanidhi’s political career began in 1953 with his participation in the Kallakudi movement. This town was originally known as Kallakudi, but it was later renamed Dalmiapuram in honour of a cement baron who had built a cement plant there. The DMK was clamouring for the name to be changed back to the previous one. Karunanidhi was arrested during the rally, and two people died.
